meet bernie

Hi beautiful!

I’m so happy you are here! Welcome to my little corner of the interwebs! I’m Bernie!

I’m a clothes-making, chai-drinking, coconut-cooking, book-reading African woman, writing about intentional living on long evening bus rides, in random coffee shops on weekends, and from my little sewing studio late at night.

This namesake blog started as a globetrotter’s diary to intelligibly share culture shocks and reminisce about home between friends and family worldwide. Today, it’s an intercultural lifestyle blog sharing conscious and intentional living resources and curating conversations with fellow Afropolitan women abroad and on the continent.

my day job

..by day, I work as a virtual assistant, freelance copywriter, photographer, and digital marketer, helping impact-driven local and international organizations write creative and imaginative tales that leave a lasting impression.

faqs

  • I was born on the 29th of May 1995. Turned 28 in 2023!

  • While I spent my formative years in Tanzania (0 to 17 yrs) and Swahili is my mother tongue, my entire adult life has been navigating Anglophone spaces, so English is now the language I dream in. Yet, I’m deeply passionate about Swahili culture and maintaining my ability to speak and write in Swahili, so I write a not-so-secret Swahili blog called: Aya za Wazawa. If you’d like to read it, please email me.

  • I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies, African Studies Concentration from Trinity College, Hartford, and a Diploma in Entrepreneurial Leadership and African Studies from the African Leadership Academy

  • Funny, you should ask! I’m always wondering if anyone is interested in this. You’d be a first, so please, email me, and let’s chat!
