I am not a love poet
of love letters
Inspired by Rudy Francisco’s Love Poem
I am not a love poet but your kaleidoscope eyes had me listen to that song again. It goes like; “I met a strong, dark and handsome man and I’ve been busy making big plans. But no one needs to know right now. I’ll tell him some day, some way, somehow. But I am gonna keep it a secret for now.” It makes me wish I were a love poet.
See, I am really not a love poet but if I were, I’d write verses about you and how you make me feel. How I crave your gentle touch when I am around you even though the only other time we touched is when I met you. You shook my hand and my heart throbbed, fast and loud. Could you hear it? The blood that rushed through my veins to my hand to get to you, could you feel it?
Every day I see your gentle smile and gentle eyes, how can I not wish I were a love poet. Really, I want to tell you that you are all I have thought about for days. And I know it sounds cheesy, but I am really not a love poet so pardon my loss for words. I am speechless every time I see you go about your daily chores. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a stalker. I just cannot resist the sight of you. My senses are alert in your presence and it’s no secret. I wish you lectured in all my classes. God knows I would pay attention. I would specialise in the study of you, learn all you moves and help myself to a piece of your mind every single time
Honestly, I am not usually a love poet but if I were, I would write a piece to tell you how much I love you in my mother tongue. It would go like: “Kisa kajua eti nampenda, ndio anafanya makusudi, kisa kasikia eti nampenda, ndio anafanya makusudi ye. Namuomba Mola anibariki mimi, huyu kaka awe wangu. Namuomba Mola anibariki mimi penzi lake lije kwangu.”
But I, I am really not a love poet so I wish the next time we meet, our hearts speak and when my spirit meets your spirit it says it’s piece and maybe, maybe you and I could be each other’s piece.
